A month or so ago when I switched from using a 40GB iPod brick to a clip-on style iPod Shuffle. I thought I would miss having access to my entire music library, but I really don't.
I never liked carrying such a big iPod. With keys, wallet and a phone my pockets were full enough already I'd have to carry it, or keep it in my bag and use the clip on remote control. I usually listened to it on shuffle anyway, skipping over all the songs I didn't like, so when my headphones started to break I could have spent another $30 pair of Apple earbuds (which fit perfectly, and I can comfortably wear all day) but I knew Apple sold refurbished iPod Shuffles for $50.
For just $20 more, I went for a Shuffle. That also let me get an orange one, which was discontinued when they changed up the colors a few months ago.
The day I started using the Shuffle was the last day I used my old 40GB iPod. With the clip and weighing nothing I take it with me all the time now and even though it can only hold a fraction of what my old iPod could, I haven't filled it's 1GB with the favorites and latest playlists I've set up for it.
Sometimes less is more.

My brother woke me up saturday morning asking if I wanted to go with the rest of the family and take the kids to the Santa Cruze Beach Boardwalk.
I seldom went there when I lived in Santa Cruz and still as ghetto as I remember, but I'll jump for a chance to spend more time with my niece and nephew. Their legs aren't very long, but it takes a lot of work to chase after them all the time.
Towards the end of the afternoon, my nephew was getting tired and it was my turn to carry him. My sister-in-law said he'll probably just fall asleep in my arms and I had him for less than two minutes when I felt his little body go limp.
I don't know quite why, but that meant a lot to me to just be holding him, just being his loving "uncle Jamie" as he slept.

It's not something I make a big deal out of, but I'm 31 years old today. Thanks to everyone who came to the party and I'm sorry I missed everyone who was left off the guest list or didn't receive the invite.
If you're looking for that perfect gift, my Flickr account expired this weekend or find out what you can do to make California High Speed Rail a reality. It is key to California's future if we are to survive the climate crisis.
Also check out The Market Street Railway and Friends of the Urban Forest which both help the environment in different ways.
