He doesn't like this photo, so shhh, but this is my boyfriend Brian. Yes, I have fallen in love.

I wasn't really watching it, but I had the television on in the background (I heard television described somewhere once as the modern equivalent of a hearth) until it up and turned itself off.

I tried to power it back on, but the remote wouldn't work. I walked over and pressed the button on the face of the box and got a couple lights to flicker on. The only buttons that would work were channel up and channel down and refused to budge when I tried to jump to the high definition channels in the 700s.

I gave up and called Comcast after quite a long wait I was told my box was dead and gone are all those programs from the last couple weeks I hadn't seen yet. They'll come out to replace it thursday, the new box will have (the latest and greatest acronym...) HDMI so at least there's something.

Thank you once again Comcast. I'm guessing "Comcastic" is a unreliable DVR with a crappy interface and stutters every time you press a button.

I usually avoid shopping on the friday following Thanksgiving, it is Buy Nothing Day after all, but this year my boyfriend Brian wanted to stop a couple places and I asked if we could swing by Best Buy since we are over that way.

I came away with a new, high-definision television, a 32" LCD Sony Bravia (the one with the nifty bouncing balls ads filmed here in SF) I got nearly $300 off on that one day sale. Two days and three calls to Comcast later I finally had an HD picture in time to watch Battlestar Galactica in HD on the Universal's channel.

I had a mac mini hooked up to the stereo, but only now can it actually be used for more than Front Row, Apple's media center program. With the wireless keyboard and mouse I can use it as a computer as well.

My roommates Dustin and Walter don't seem impressed, or even to have noticed, though they just got a bigger, HDTV for free. Brian at least got a kick out of how excited I was.

AIDS/LifeCycle

I'm riding 545 miles to raise money to fight AIDS, make a donation.

This is an archive of every entry posted during December 2006.
