The Live Pursuit

It was probably the same day we moved in that my new roommate Walter started to introduce me the scottish band Belle & Sebastian, one of his favorites.
Now I'm noticing them everywhere, including a lot of play on NPR (which I plays better music than what you get from commercial music stations these days). Last night they played a concert as part of NPR's ongoing concert series. (my favorite so far has been Sigur Rós)
I still don't know a lot Belle & Sebastian's music, but listening to the show this morning I discovered one set here in San Francisco, "Piazza, New York Catcher"
We hung about the tenderloin and tenderly you tell
About the saddest book you ever read
Now if NPR would next get Arcade Fire to do a show...

Next time they come through I'll have to go see them.
Last month, I woke up one sunday morning and turned on NPR just as they'd started playing "Rebellion (Lies)" as the introduction to a story on the Montreal music scene, they played a good couple minutes of the song, and its not the first time I've heard them on NPR. They've gotten a few plugs on All Songs Considered too.

And tonight NPR had a concert by Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah!. I know what I'm listening to at work tomorrow morning.

There's a tenderloin district in NYC that predates the sf one. Given the songs title, I'd bet it's that one..

I didn't know New York had a Tenderloin, the double reference was probably intentional, I should have had posted the entire verse though, there's a little setup that places the story in SF...
San Francisco's calling us, the Giants and Mets will play
Piazza, New York catcher, are you straight or are you gay?
We hung about the stadium, we've got no place to stay
We hung about the tenderloin and tenderly you tell
About the saddest ending of a book you ever had to read
The statue's crying too and well he may

Well, that does sounds pretty definite, doesn't it. ;-) New York's Tenderloin spans Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen and, I gather, is't referred to as 'the tenderloin' much anymore. (I wonder if we'll say the same about sf's tenderloin in another.. oh, 20 years or so. Ah, gentrification.)

There was even recently (Feb 2) an article about Belle and Sebastian in the New York Times, reviewing the new album!

Arcade Fire is amazing. Their last show at The Warfield was absolutely fucking sick. It would be great to hear them get NPR airtime.
